devesas train station
devesas train station
project developed during the design studio 4 at faup. individual work. 2022-2023.
the main focus of the proposed intervention for the new Devesas Train Station, in Vila Nova de Gaia, is the recovery of the land surrounding the railway station. this movement aims to integrate vegetation into the project and create a natural transition between the station and its surroundings. the station’s design incorporates green spaces and public areas, allowing travelers and passengers to have contact with nature before and after their trips. at the lowest level, the movement of soil that softens the existing embankment, allows the entry of light through a large field, with different species of flowers and finally a water mirror, which receives the building and travelers, forming one of the entrances that serves as support for the large volume of people accessing the station from the western part of Porto.
inspired by architect Lina Bo Bardi’s philosophy and architecture of creating spaces that promote community involvement, the station has a large open and protected area that encourages social interaction and visual relationship with the surroundings, featuring the second access to the station in the south, taking the opportunity to design a new frontage to the street Rua Barão do Corvo, which now establishes visual permeability with the Douro River and the city of Porto.
